Yerba Maté is a South American tree that is cultivated to produce a leaf tea. It contains some caffeine and other stimulants called xanthines alongside many nutrients. These include high amounts of magnesium and other minerals, vitamin C, and many important B-complex vitamins. Maté also contains fifteen amino acids, plant sterols and saponins - thought to boost immune function.
It is a very good source of antioxidants - containing higher levels of polyphenols than Green tea. Modern research has shown that it has a higher antioxidant activity than either Green tea or Red Wine.
Yerba Maté is especially valuable as a tonic for those with busy lifestyles. It can combat fatigue, aid digestion, cut appetite, boost metabolism and help to balance blood sugar levels.
