Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) trees are believed to be the oldest species of tree on earth, and fossils reveal that they were widespread during the time of the dinosaurs 250 million years ago.
In China the trees are planted at the entrance to Buddhist shrines. They are highly resistant to disease and as a result are very long-lived, with some examples believed to be more than 2,500 years old!
The leaves of this beautiful tree contain many potent antioxidant actives called Ginkgoflavones, and Terpenoids (Ginkgolides, Bilobalides) which can improve circulation by dilating the blood vessels, and may protect nerve cells.
Ginkgo is reputed to improve memory, increase circulation and is a potent source of antioxidants. As such it is generally regarded as a superb supplement for anyone over the age of 50. This high strength extract is standardised to contain 24% Ginkgoflavones and 6% Terpenoids.
