Açai was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show
Açai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is a dark purple berry that is the fruit of a wild palm found growing in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. It is a natural source of antioxidants called anthocyanins. This berry's nutritional content was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show. In the U.S. it is frequently referred to as a ‘super food.’
The Colour Purple
Açai’s deep purple coloration is an indicator of its content of antioxidants called anthocyanins – other foods in this category include most berries, beetroot, pomegranate, plums, red cabbage and red wine grapes. Açai naturally contains 33 x more anthocyanins than red wine grapes.
